TRAVEL TIPS

Train Travel

The Proastiakos ("suburban"), a light-rail network offering travelers a direct link from Athens Eleftherios Venizelos Airport to Kiato (en route to Patras for €12), has introduced Athenians to the concept of commuting. The trains now serve the city's northern and eastern suburbs as well as western Attica. The Athens-to-Corinth fare is €9; lower fares apply for points in between. If you plan on taking the train while in Athens, call the Greek Railway Organization (OSE) to find out which station your train leaves from, and how to get there. Trains from the north and international trains arrive at, and depart from, Stathmos Larissis, which is connected to the metro. If you want to buy tickets ahead of time, it's easier to visit a downtown railway office.
